About this tool
Calculate a supported SHA message digest from entered text. Review the algorithm, encoding and exact payload before comparing the result with an expected value from a trusted source.
Calculations and file processing run in this browser tab. The tool does not send working inputs or files to our hosting server.

Features
- Work with Input String to Hash (UTF-8 — leave empty to test 0-byte NIST vector).
- Primary Output Algorithm: choose from SHA-256 (256-bit / 64 hex chars); SHA-512 (512-bit / 128 hex chars); SHA-384 (384-bit / 96 hex chars); SHA-1 (160-bit / 40 hex chars — Legacy).
- Newline Normalization Mode: choose from Normalize to LF (\n — Standard Web/Unix); Convert to CRLF (\r\n — Windows); Exact Raw String (No Newline Conversion).
- Review SHA-256 (First 12 / Last 4); Input UTF-8 Byte Length; Newline Handling in the result breakdown.
Benefits
- Compare deterministic digest values for a known payload.
- Check that both sides of a comparison use the same algorithm.
Who should use this tool?
- Developers checking a hash example.
- People learning integrity-verification concepts.
How to use
- Complete the labelled fields for your scenario, including Input String to Hash (UTF-8 — leave empty to test 0-byte NIST vector). Use the units shown beside each field.
- Choose Primary Output Algorithm; Newline Normalization Mode to match the situation you want to check.
- Select Calculate / Run Tool and review SHA-256 Hex Digest (3 UTF-8 Bytes) and SHA-256 (First 12 / Last 4); Input UTF-8 Byte Length.
- Check the assumptions and limitations below. Adjust a value to compare scenarios, then copy or download the result you need.

FAQs
Can a hash be decoded to recover the original message?
A cryptographic digest is not an encrypted copy with a decoding key. Compare digests for matching input representations rather than expecting this tool to reverse a hash.
Which inputs do I need for Cryptographic Hash Generator (SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA-1)?
Use Input String to Hash (UTF-8 — leave empty to test 0-byte NIST vector); Primary Output Algorithm; Newline Normalization Mode. The built-in examples show how those fields fit together.
What should I check before using this result?
Text is encoded as UTF-8 via TextEncoder. By default, CRLF (\r\n) line breaks are normalized to LF (\n); switch Newline Mode to CRLF or Raw if your webhook payload uses Windows line endings. Check the assumptions and output against your intended task before relying on the result.
